Want to know what the toughest sport in the world is? Boxing.
According to sports scientists, boxing demands the most from the athletes who compete in it.
It's harder than football, harder than baseball, harder than basketball, harder than hockey or soccer
or cycling or skiing or fishing or billiards or any other of the 60 sports that have been rated.

There are many misconceptions about boxing.
Ellen Heinreich, a student at Kansas State University, interviewed Coach L and conducted research to understand the sport of boxing.
"This comparison [of pro vs amateur boxing] highlights one of the greatest negative stereotypes about amateur boxing- the safety of the sport. When I asked Coach L to tell me what the most common misconception about amateur boxing is, her answer was quick: “Safety. People think of boxing as a violent, brutal sport. It is safe and USA Boxing [the national governing body for amateur boxing] focuses on the safety of the boxers.”

At K.O. you will learn that you can do your best even when it's hard, even when you're tired and maybe even hurting a little. It feels good to show courage and heart!
"Boxing helps you overcome fear. It doesn't mean that boxing will take away fear completely, but will teach you to live and function well within that fear."
-Cus D'Amato, Legendary Trainer
"Boxing is a superior workout along with developing an invaluable skill. A boxing workout is the perfect combination of cardiovascular and muscle training. You'll burn more calories, build more stamina, develop and tone more muscle in a boxing workout than you will with any other training method. A boxing workout is the best of all worlds...unlike running and biking, which do little for the muscles above the waist, boxing works both the upper and
lower body and because it uses many muscle groups, it is less likely to cause overuse injuries."
-Dr. Joseph Estwanik, Sports Medicine Specialist

MISSION STATEMENT
Our goal is to provide the community the opportunity to learn the art of boxing, learn and perform Dancenastics and lose weight and get in shape through K.O. fitness training in a safe and comfortable environment. K.O. promotes and enhances the physical and emotional well-being and social development of you children, athletes, non-athletes and adults of all ages; develops individual athletic skills, work ethic, discipline, sportsmanship, self-respect, respect for others and pride; and provides health awareness to citizens of the community. We encourage our members to improve mentally and spiritually as well as physically.
We pledge not only to teach boxing, gymnastics, dance and how to be fit and healthy, but life skills to all our members. We gladly accept our roles as mentors and role models for the youth of our community and a support group for the adults in need of weight loss, increased strength and improved cardiovascular health. We see this as our responsibility as well as our privilege. We encourage individuals and families to lead healthier lifestyles and assist them in reaching their goals through our one-of-a-kind programs, which focus on learning and improving. We strive to improve the lives of as many individuals as possible with the positive influences of our K.O. trained and qualified coaching staff.
The K.O. Code of Conduct enforces a strict anti-bullying mentality through mutual respect and understanding. We adhere to a code, which consists of the importance of respect, honor, dignity and courage. We will work hand in hand with parents, and caregivers to help kids stay on the right track, focus and achieve their goals. Thus, when outside of K.O. they will not only have a strong body but also a strong sense of self worth and accomplishment. We are committed to offering the best opportunities for all.
In seeking to fulfill its mission, K.O. Boxing, Inc. works side by side with the national non-profit organization, Hopeful Tomorrow. We believe all children and youth should have the opportunity to be a part of such stated structured programs. Our community has economically challenged families and at risk kids. K.O. works closely with Riley County Juvenile Intake and Hopeful Tomorrow, to help our community’s youth.
How you can help. Go to hopefultomorrow.org click on “Donate”. When filling out the sponsorship form, place K.O. Boxing, Manhattan, Kansas, in the sponsoring studio box. Our community’s children will greatly benefit from your monetary support. You may also contact Coach Lorissa Ridley-Fink at koboxer86@gmail.com or 785-341-1708 and ask how you can volunteer as an assistant coach and or mentor. You may also directly sponsor a child by simply paying their monthly dues. Contact Coach L. for information on youth and children that need sponsorship.
Hopeful Tomorrow’s mission: help the disadvantaged and at-risk youth of our nation pursue their passions and dreams. It is our mission to provide these children with access to cultural, physical and fine arts programs including, but not limited to: music, art, dance, gymnastics, and martial arts. We seek to open doors and futures, which would otherwise be closed to much of America’s youth. These programs provide guidance to the misguided and inspiration to the uninspired. Positive role models and a creative outlet can change any child’s life. HOPEFUL TOMORROW strives to provide a vehicle for that change.
